A campaign is trying to reduce the number of carbon monoxide poisonings across the UK, caused by faulty appliances.

74 cases have been recorded within 12 months, in the South West.

Since 2015 landlords have been required to fit these alarms - but a woman who was pregnant at the time, got poisoned due to a faulty boiler.

Jade Ulrich, who is a mum-of-two was pregnant at the time is urging other families to be cautious as the weather turns colder.

'Carbon monoxide, its the silent killer'

Jade said:

"The property that we were staying in that you assume is going to be safe for you and your family and to a rentable standard was, in effect, poisoning us in our sleep.

"It was an incredibly scary time and moving forward, it was a learning curve to say the least.

"Make sure it's at the forefront of your minds. We're coming into a time of the year when everyone's thinking about warming their homes but this is an all-round problem; carbon monoxide, it's the silent killer".
