Emergency services tackle large fire at recycling centre near Calne

Thirty firefighters have been tackling a blaze at a recycling centre in Compton Basset, near Calne, overnight.

Emergency services were called shortly after 6pm (9th June) and crews arrived from Calne, Chippenham, Devizes, Marlborough and Corsham along with a water carrier from Royal Wootton Bassett and support unit from Salisbury.

In a statement, they said: "The incident involves approximately 100m x 100m of landfill.

"Our crews are working hard to contain the fire and reduce the smoke plume - we will be on site overnight and likely into tomorrow."

They've advised local residents to keep doors and windows closed.
