Thames Water has confirmed repair work for a burst pipe in Swindon should be completed tonight.

The pipe on East Wichel Way burst yesterday morning and resulted in a loss of water supply for many residents.

Thames Water warned locals that pressures may temporarily dip again this afternoon - but said that won't last for long.

In a statement on their website, they posted:

“We’re expecting to finish our repairs to the burst pipe this evening.

“Last night’s rain has made conditions very boggy in the field where we’re working off East Wichel Way, so it’s possible we’ll need to carry on into the weekend.”

Some residents also had no water again this morning.

Thames Water said:

“We are aware that around 11.30am customers lost their water supply in some areas of Swindon. This was caused by a sudden drop in pressure while we were carrying out repair on the burst pipe.

“We have now fixed the issue that caused pressures to drop, and water should be returning to your taps now but it may take some time for pressures to fully build. We are really sorry that you experienced this.”

They opened a drive-through bottled water station at the Wyvern Theatre in Swindon for anyone needing additional supplies.

Thames Water added:

“This water is intended for essential use – please be considerate and only take it if you really need it.”
