The Bishop of Swindon is calling on residents across the town to be "a little bit more human" over the festive period.

Bishop Lee Rayfield has overseen the life and health of the Church of England in Swindon for more than 15 years, working as part of the Diocese of Bristol.

'Come and find that hope'

As the Christmas holidays get underway, he delivered a dedicated message to Swindon residents.

"Church is about an invitation to come and find that hope, to come and participate, to recognise that God is with us. He's with us in the joys, he's with us in the bad times.

"If you look for God, if you wait for God, he will not disappoint you".

Bishop Rayfield's responsibilities include Chairing the Board of Education for the 73 Church of England schools across the Diocese. He also works in Ministry development, supporting the clergy to flourish in their role.

'We're all human beings, who could get a little bit more human'

He concluded his festive speech by reminding residents to appreciate what they have. He wants people to follow the key values of his Christian faith, saying they "underpin" many aspects of society.

"We take a lot for granted in our society about the Christian faith. We forget how significant it is, even in what we might call a secular age.

"Frankly friends, we're all human beings, who could get a little bit more human, and a little bit more like Jesus," he added.
