All five have been released under investigation while enquiries continue.

PC Jamie Brown said: “This was a large scale disorder involving multiple people – we’ve been conducting extensive enquiries and have arrested five people but through our CCTV enquiries, we know there were more people involved, as well as further victims who have not made contact with police. Please get in touch as the information you have could potentially be significant to our investigation.

“Violence of this nature will not be tolerated and the behaviour of those involved would no doubt have caused fear amongst those attempting to enjoy a night out in Old Town.

"We will continue to conduct enquiries to ensure those involved are identified and put before the courts.”

Anyone with information should call 101 and quote crime reference number 54210109532.
