27-year-old in custody after teenager shot in Swindon

Police say investigations continue into the incident which happened in the early hours of this morning (April 24)

A 27-year-old man is in police custody this evening (April 24) after a teenager suffered 'potentially life changing injuries' after being shot in Swindon.

The shooting - which took place at about 12.30am this morning - happened on Odstock Road, Penhill - with detectives still looking into exactly what happened.

A 17-year-old boy was rushed to hospital via air ambulance following the incident, with officers saying they are 'actively investigating' the crime scene.

They made two arrests in connection with the shooting, but one was released with no further police action.

  • A 42 year old man was arrested on suspicion of possession of a firearm with intent to endanger life / enable another to do so. He has since been released, with no further action.
  • A 27-year-old man arrested on suspicion of causing grievous bodily harm with intent and possession of a firearm - he is currently in police custody.

Earlier, Detective Chief Inspector Charlotte Tucker said: “We are actively investigating this incident with all the resources at our disposal.

“We would be very grateful to hear from anyone who was in the area at the time of this incident and may have seen what happened. We are also appealing to anyone in the area to check CCTV, dashcam or doorbell camera footage from overnight 23rd into 24th April.

“This attack has left a young man with serious injuries and he is currently undergoing hospital treatment. Our thoughts are with his family and friends.
