Young people in Adur and Worthing will be given a taste of the career opportunities available to them as part of National Careers Week 2022.

The OneStop Youth Employment Hub - a joint project between Adur & Worthing Councils and the Department for Work and Pensions - will be running a series of activities and workshops during National Careers Week (7-12 March) to encourage young people to connect with local employers and gain employability skills.

Throughout the week a host of local and national employers will be holding information sessions that give a glimpse into what it’s like to work in their sector and provide information about the roles they have available.

Employers signed up include South Downs Leisure, The Grand Brighton, Focus Group, Adur & Worthing Councils, GSK, Willmott Dixon, Guildcare and the NHS.

The sessions will all take place at the OneStop Youth Employment Hub in Marine Place, Worthing, and are free to attend.

A group support session on Wednesday 9 March will also help young people gain valuable employability skills. During this session, OneStop Youth Employment Hub staff will help young people research and apply for jobs as well as identify their skills and create a stand-out CV.

Aspire Sussex has also signed up to deliver a session on the various adult education courses it runs.

The OneStop Youth Employment Hub staff have worked with local community group The Sid Youth to help young people secure Kickstart positions, including 50 employed at Adur & Worthing Councils. They have also run a series of workshops that have helped boost young people’s confidence and employment prospects.

Cllr Nicola Waight, Worthing’s Executive Member for Regeneration, said: “Since it opened in September 2021, the OneStop Youth Employment Hub has provided vital support to young people whose employment prospects have been impacted by the COVID pandemic.

“It’s great to see that work continue as part of National Careers Week. The team has created a fantastic opportunity for young people to connect with major local employers and support organisations, which I am sure will help secure positive employment outcomes.”
