Worthing Pier to get new fire safety system as part of redevelopment
It'll form part of the transformation of the Southern Pavilion

Work to refurbish part of Worthing pier will include a fire system with 132 sprinkler heads.
Permission for the ‘robust’ safety measures at the Southern Pavilion was given at a meeting of the borough council’s planning committee on Wednesday (November 25).
Last month, the committee gave listed building consent to plans to refurbish the pavilion, incorporating new bars and a restaurant.
The sprinkler system will help to ensure it stays safe for years to come.
Planning officer James Appleton said: “Piers have a tendency to burn down in this country, unfortunately. We have lost some very fine piers as a result of fires.
“This is required to avoid that happening to this important listed structure.”
Designed by Sir Robert Rawlinson, Worthing Pier is 960ft long and was opened on April 12 1862.
The Southern Pavilion was built in the 1930s, replacing an earlier version, which was destroyed in a fire.
