Thousands of women are expected to attend a UK women's March in Brighton today
Women across Sussex and Kent are coming together this afternoon to protest against Donald Trumps incoming presidency.
The UK women's march is happening in 20 cities up and down the country, including Brighton and Canterbury, and will see women protesting on issues such as women's health care and domestic abuse.
Similar events are planned all over the UK, with organisers saying violence against women has increased by 37 percent since 2018.
The protests come two days before Donald Trump’s inauguration in the United States, in reaction to his upcoming Presidency.
Elisa Rowland, one of the organisers, said: "This is the beginning or a renewal of what a lot of people have been trying to build for the last few years.
"It's something that we absolutely need to make a stand on. That we need to fight for women's rights and that this struggle is nowhere near over.
"You can look at the massive rise in violence against women and girls over the last few years and all the cases that we've seen coming up in the news.
"Even yesterday, I saw at least 3 different cases of domestic violence that were just completely awful".
She highlighted that these marches intend to show support for women worldwide, saying: "We speak about issues in Afghanistan, in Iran.
"It's about women's rights everywhere that are under attack and under threat.
"It's always a fantastic feeling. I've been on many marches before and when you see everyone there coming together to fight for one thing; it's something that gives you such confidence and such hope that we can achieve things, we can fight for these things and win".
The march will take place from midday. In Brighton starting from Brighton Station through to Pavilion Gardens and in Canterbury, from Westgate Gardens to Dane John Gardens.
