Woman taken to hospital after assault in Worthing

She suffered a serious slash wound to her hand

A woman has been taken to hospital after an assault in Worthing.

Just after midday today (23 December) officers received a report of a woman being assaulted in an alleyway in Wallace Avenue near Courtland Way in West Worthing.

Sussex Police has confirmed the 26 year-old woman sustained a serious slash wound to her hand and has been taken to hospital.

Detective Inspector Antony Leadbeatter said:

"Officers are conducting an area search for the suspects involved in the assault.

"We believe this to be an isolated incident and do not believe there is any wider threat to the public.

"High visibility patrols will be increased in the area while the search continues.

"We are appealing for anyone with information to make contact with us."
