Police are appealing for witnesses to a fatal collision which occurred on the A280 Long Furlong, near Worthing, about 12.18pm on Tuesday 31 May.

A Fiat Panda travelling southbound collided with a DAF truck travelling in the opposite direction, close to Patching.

Despite the best efforts of members of the public and paramedics, the sole occupant of the Fiat – an 85-year-old local woman – was sadly pronounced deceased at the scene. No other injuries were reported.

A section of the road was closed for several hours to allow for investigations and recovery work, and we would like to thank the public for their patience and understanding.

Anyone who witnessed the crash or captured any relevant dash cam footage is urged to email collision.appeal@sussex.police.uk quoting Operation Folkstone.
