Elderly woman dies following crash in East Preston

An 18-year-old motorcyclist has been arrested in connection with the incident

Police are appealing for witnesses after a woman died following a collision in East Preston.

Emergency services responded to the collision involving a red Yamaha motorcycle travelling west and an 81-year-old pedestrian on the B2140 Worthing Road, near the junction with Copse View, at about 3.35pm on Tuesday (October 25).

The pedestrian suffered serious injuries and was taken to the Royal Sussex County Hospital by air ambulance. Sadly, she has since died as a result of her injuries.

Her next of kin have been informed and are receiving support from specially trained officers.

The motorcyclist, an 18-year-old man from Worthing, was taken to Worthing Hospital for treatment to minor injuries and was later discharged.

He has since been arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving and remains in custody at this time.

Enquiries are continuing and officers are eager to obtain relevant CCTV or dashcam footage, as well as speaking to anyone who may have witnessed the collision.
