Woman charged with assaulting police officers at Brighton hospital

A woman is due in court on Thursday (January 14th) after being charged with assaulting two police officers and a paramedic in Brighton.

One police constable was pushed at the Royal Sussex County Hospital and another spat at by the suspect, who claimed to have Covid-19.

The officers arrived there at around 8.30pm on Tuesday after hearing reports of a disturbance, where the woman was found behaving aggressively towards staff.

34-year-old Christina Whelan, of Danehill Road in Brighton, was arrested and charged with three counts of assaulting an emergency worker, assault by beating, obstructing a constable in their execution of duty and using threatening / abusive words or behaviour likely to cause alarm or distress.

She is due to appear before Brighton Magistrates' Court on Thursday (14 January).
