It has been confirmed that West Sussex will be staying in Tier 2 of England's coronavirus restrictions ahead of Christmas.

The Health Secretary, Matt Hancock, announced changes to the system on Wednesday (December 17th).

It follows the first review into the rules, which were first introduced following the end of England's second lockdown on December 2nd.

More areas of the South East will be under Tier 3 restrictions from Saturday (December 19th).

It includes Gosport, Portsmouth and Havant in Hampshire, the Hastings and Rother areas of East Sussex, and much of Surrey.

West Sussex County Council have released a 'data dashboard' which shows the latest COVID-19 figures for the county.

There have been 906 new confirmed cases of coronavirus in the seven days to December 11th, but cases are rising compared to the previous week.

Tim Loughton, Member of Parliament for East Worthing & Shoreham, has said we must "continue to be vigilant in Adur and Worthing and not at all be complacent including over Christmas".

What do the different tiers mean?

There are currently three different tiers of restrictions in England ranging from 'medium' to 'very high'.

West Sussex has been in Tier Two since the end of the second lockdown on the 2nd December.

Here's how the different tiers affect what you can and can't do.

The lowest level of restrictions for areas with fewer coronavirus cases is tier one:

Tier One

Tier two is more restrictive than tier one:

Tier Two

And then finally there's tier three which is the strictest level of measures that somewhere in England can be placed under at the moment:

Tier Three
