Coastal areas of West Sussex are being asked to remain on watch for strong gales tonight due to Storm Christoph.

The Met Office has issued a new yellow weather warning for wind between 9pm on Wednesday (January 20th) and 3am on Thursday.

It's in place for areas including Bognor, Littlehampton, Arundel, Worthing, Steyning and Shoreham.

Met Office forecasters say wind speeds are set to peak overnight, with gusts 40 to 50 mph inland

That's set to be higher in coastal areas with 50-60 mph possible along some coasts and perhaps towards 70 mph in the most exposed spots.

A previous yellow weather warning for heavy rain, which came into force at midnight and had been due to last until midday on Thursday, has now been stood down in the county.

The new weather warning covers the West Sussex coast through Wednesday night and the early hours of Thursday

Delays for high-sided vehicles on exposed routes and bridges likely
