A West Sussex home has been severely affected by a fire this lunchtime (Monday 12th August).

Five fire engines and an aerial ladder platform were called to Grosvenor Road in Donnington at around 11.30am today.

The first floor and roof were damaged in the incident.

A spokesperson for West Sussex Fire & Rescue Service said:

"At 11.31am we were alerted to a fire at a property in Grosvenor Road, Donnington.

"Joint Fire Control mobilised five fire engines and an aerial ladder platform to the scene.

"Upon arrival crews found a fire on the first floor and roof space. Firefighters wearing breathing apparatus brought the fire under control using two hose reels."

It's been confirmed the incident is now being 'scaled down', with one crew still on the scene to check for hot spots.

Local residents had been asked to keep windows and doors closed at the height of the blaze.

While some emergency services remain on the scene, we're still asked to avoid the area.
