A Brighton-born man who was forced to flee his new home city of Kyiv when Russia invaded has told Greatest Hits Radio that he wishes him and his family had stayed in Poland, rather than continuing on back to England.

Dan Baker's comments come just weeks after he returned to the country.

He says the British Government has made a number of empty promises and that people in his position are struggling with visas before arrival, and with accommodation, work and schools for children after they arrive.

He said: "I'm lucky to have a network of people in Brighton and Hove, this is my territory I'm from here. I can't imagine if people had come to England without speaking the language, without having contacts.

"We were promised the world when we came here, to this utopia but nothing has happened yet.

"My daughter is having trouble going to school because of the refugee thing, is she a refugee or is she a tourist? Why do you want to go to school if you're a tourist? It's that kind of barrier that we keep hitting.

"This is all because of the British Government overestimating their abilities, we really wish we'd stayed in Poland."

Just last week Home Secretary Priti Patel apologised for issues refugees were having with visas.

She said: "Any new scheme takes time, any new visa system takes time. It's been frustrating, I apologise, with frustration, myself."
