People and businesses in West Sussex are being warned not to buy products from an illegal meat seller offering items via Facebook Marketplace.

Horsham District Council has said items such as beef, lamb, veal and goat are being processed in an unapproved establishment in the Wiltshire area.

They have warned that the products, which are being distributed nationally across England, are unsafe for consumption.

The affected products have been advertised under the brand names Ushqime Organike, Bio UK; Ushqime BIO UK; Ushqime BIO; and Wiltshire Farm Products.

It is unclear if any of the meat has been purchased by businesses or members of the public in the Horsham district, or anywhere else in West Sussex.

Cllr Tricia Youtan, Cabinet Member for Community Matters and Wellbeing on Horsham District Council, said:

“People selling unregulated food in this manner are putting the health of the general public at risk, as it is unlikely they would meet the required food and safety standards.

“The rules around the production and selling of food are strict for a reason.

“I would urge residents to be wary of these types of sellers as the adverse health effects could be very serious.”

People who believe they may have purchased meat from this business before last Friday (January 15th) must not consume it, but should put it aside, well-wrapped in the fridge and contact Horsham District Council’s Environmental Health and Licensing team for further advice.

The Environmental Health & Licensing team can be contacted by emailing publichealth.licensing@horsham.go.uk or by telephoning 01403 215 100.
