Police have arrested a man after a van collided with a gate on land owned by Gatwick Airport.

Officers were called to reports of a crash in Bonnetts Lane in Crawley at 3.43am on Monday morning.

A man from Crawley was arrested and taken into custody on suspicion of criminal damage, entering a restricted area of aerodrome on the outer perimeter of the campus, being in possession of a Class B drug and driving a motor vehicle with a proportion of a specified controlled drug above the specified limit.

Sussex Police said on Monday that they were not assessing the incident to be terrorist-related.

No disruption was caused to Gatwick Airport, its passengers, or staff, with flights continuing to run as normal on Monday.
