More young people than ever before are now choosing to live at home while studying for a university degree, according to the University of Brighton.

The financial pressures associated with the current cost-of-living crisis mean that many young people are deciding to stay local for their university studies.

University of Brighton say that one-third of their students come from a home address within 30 miles of the University.

Many of those students from from across the city and nearby East and West Sussex.

This is partially due to the university having worked closely with schools and colleges in the region for many years.

To help those who choose to live at home while studying, the University has unveiled a package of financial support for local students.

The scheme includes up to £500 towards travel costs for students starting at Brighton this September.

It is part of the ‘Brighton Boost’ package of funding, support and services designed to help new students get off to the best possible start.

Commuter students with a 45-minute+ journey on public transport. Are also eligible for free parking on campus.

As well as the support for commuter students, Brighton Boost includes up to £1,250 towards halls of residence costs for those living on campus.

A technology loan scheme for those in need of a laptop, and a £500 bursary for any student eligible to receive the full student loan are other features of the package.

Other cash bursaries available include the £1,000 Care Leavers’ Bursary and the £1,000 Estranged Students Bursary.
