Cordon removed after 'unexploded WWII mortar' found on Brighton beach
Explosives experts were called out on Sunday
A cordon placed on part of Brighton beach following the discovery of a potentially explosive device has been lifted.
The item, believed to be an unexploded World War II-era mortar shell, was discovered to the west of Palace Pier on Sunday afternoon (April 18th).
Police shut off a large section of the beach, being used by locals enjoying the April sunshine, while Explosives Ordnance Disposal (EOD) experts were called to the scene.
In a statement, Sussex Police said the item had been washed away with the tide as of 8.30pm on Sunday.
