Two in custody following break-in and 135mph police chase

Two men were arrested following a high-speed pursuit linked to a burglary at a Post Office in East Sussex.

The building in Catsfield, near Battle, was broken into in the early hours of Tuesday morning (June 11th), with police being called there at around 3am.

A was smashed in order to gain entry and a quantity of cash was taken from inside.

Later, a vehicle was traced by Kent Police’s Roads Policing Unit travelling north towards Surrey.

The suspect’s vehicle reached speeds of 135mph. during the pursuit, before two suspects attempted to leave the vehicle on the M25.

One suspect was arrested while another ran across the motorway. He was traced to nearby woodland with the help of the Metropolitan Police and the National Police Air Service helicopter.

Both men, one aged 38 from Sutton, and the other aged 42 from Lewisham, remained in custody as of Wednesday evening.

Chief Inspector Chris Veale from Sussex Police Operations Command said:

"We responded to a report of a break-in at a village Post Office, where a quantity of cash was taken.

"Thanks to the work of officers and colleagues from Kent Police, Surrey Police, and the Metropolitan Police the suspects were detained.

"It demonstrates exemplary professionalism and teamwork across the police forces."

Witnesses or anyone with relevant information such as CCTV footage is asked to report it to Sussex Police online, quoting serial 117 of 11/06.
