Two people have died following a fire at a house in West Sussex on Boxing Day morning.

Emergency services received a report of a significant fire at a residential property in Harbolets Road, West Chiltington, at 9.10am on Saturday.

The blaze closed a section of the B2133 for around five hours, with the road reopened at just before 3pm.

A joint investigation has been launched between West Sussex Fire and Rescue and Sussex Police into the cause of the blaze, and whether any other people were inside at the time.

In a joint statement, the emergency services said:

“Two people have sadly been confirmed deceased at the scene.

“Police are still actively liaising with the fire service to ensure the building is safe and to determine if any other persons are present, and a joint investigation will take place to ascertain the cause of the fire.

“We have no further information at this stage.”
