Capybara triplets have been born at Drusillas Zoo, just over a year after the first was born there in over a decade.

The triplets - two boys and one girl - were born on 28th September, and zookeepers at the Alfriston attraction say they're doing well.

There had previously been no capybara births at the zoo since 2011, until the triplets' older brother, Satsuma, was born last June.

Zookeepers say their mother, Clementine, had been largely dismissive towards other potential partners before they introduced Augustus to her in 2021.

The zoo's Head Keeper, Gemma Romanis, said:

“We are over the moon to welcome three new capybara babies. We were all so excited when Satsuma was born last year and it’s amazing that now he’s been joined by not one, but three siblings."

People are being invited to name the triplets, provided they're in keeping with the family's orange-themed names.
