Thunderstorm warning issued for Sussex by Met Office
It'll be in place across northern parts this afternoon (July 20th)
Northern areas of Sussex are being told to watch out for the possibility of thunderstorms on Tuesday (July 20th).
The Met Office has issued a yellow severe weather warning across parts of the South East, London, the East of England and the Midlands from 1pm through until 11.59pm.
Among the areas covered are Petworth, Billingshurst, Horsham, Crawley, Haywards Heath, Uckfield, Heathfield and Crowborough.
It comes a day after the first ever extreme heat warning was issued by forecasters, with temperatures rising as high as 31C in some areas.
What could we expect?
Flooding of homes and businesses could happen quickly, with damage to some buildings from floodwater, lightning strikes, hail or strong winds
Spray and sudden flooding could lead to difficult driving conditions and some road closures
Where flooding or lightning strikes occur, there is a chance of delays and some cancellations to train and bus services
Power cuts might occur and other services to some homes and businesses could be lost
A Met Office spokesperson said:
"Although many places will miss them, some thunderstorms are likely to develop during Tuesday afternoon and evening, bringing torrential rain, frequent lightning, large hail and gusty winds.
"These thunderstorms could produce 30-60 mm of rain within 1-2 hours."
