Third death in three days on West Sussex's railways
Emergency teams were called out on Thursday evening (January 28th)
A person has died after being hit by a train in West Sussex, the third such incident on the county's railways in as many days.
Emergency services were called to Three Bridges station following reports of a casualty on the tracks at 5.33pm on Thursday (January 28th).
A spokesperson for the British Transport Police said:
“Paramedics also attended, however sadly a person was pronounced dead at the scene.
“Officers are working to identify the deceased and inform their next of kin.”
The death is not being treated as suspicious and a file has been prepared for the coroner.
Trains between Brighton, Horsham, Three Bridges and Gatwick Airport were all delayed or cancelled following the incident, which closed lines through much of Thursday.
Southern Rail said all delays as a result of the incident had ended as of 1.45am on Friday.
The incident comes after two deaths were reported in the space of half an hour at Billingshurst and Balcombe on Tuesday (January 26th).
As with the Three Bridges incident, these are not being treated as suspicious by British Transport Police.
