Teenage boy suspected of murder after woman's body found in Brighton home

The 17-year-old has been detained by police

Police have arrested a 17-year-old boy on suspicion of murder after a woman's body was found in a house in Brighton.

Officers were called to a property in Cedars Gardens, in the Withdean area of the city, at 6.55pm on Thursday (January 7th).

The 69-year-old woman was found deceased there.

Sussex Police said the 17-year-old boy had been taken into custody for interview and further enquiries as of 11pm on Thursday night.

The boy and woman are known to each other and police have said they are not currently looking for anyone else in relation to the crime.

Officers have stressed there is no risk to the local community.

The investigation is being carried out by detectives from the Surrey and Sussex Major Crime Team, working with local officers.
