Vote counting in elections across Sussex is due to get underway on Friday (May 7th) after voters went to the polls yesterday.

Voters have been choosing county councillors in both East and West Sussex, borough councillors in Crawley, Hastings and Worthing and district councillors in Adur, along with the post of Sussex Police and Crime Commissioner.

When can we expect to know the results?

Vote counting is due to get underway in elections to Crawley Borough Council, East Sussex County Council and Hastings Borough Council at around 12pm on Friday.

We're expecting to get a final result at around 5pm in Crawley and at around 6pm in East Sussex and Hastings - although that is likely to change and some results may not be declared until Saturday.

As for the other elections - West Sussex County Council's results are due out on Saturday, counting is taking place in Adur and Worthing on Sunday, and it won't be until Monday when we find out who has been elected as Police and Crime Commissioner for Sussex.

What's at stake?

Crawley

Elections are taking place in 14 of the 36 seats on Crawley Borough Council.

12 of the seats were polls that were postponed from 2020, while there are also extra elections in Tilgate and Ifield where seats were vacant but no by-elections were held due to the pandemic.

The council is currently under no overall control - a Labour administration has been in charge but lots its majority when two councillors left the party in June and July last year.

Heading into the election, the council consisted of 16 Conservative councillors, 15 Labour ones and two independents, with two vacant seats.

East Sussex

All 50 seats on East Sussex County Council are up for re-election.

The Conservatives regained control of the authority at the last election in 2017, after four years of it being under no overall control.

They took 30 seats last time out, with 11 going to the Liberal Democrats, four to Labour, three to Independents and two to Independent Democrats.

Hastings

Half of Hastings' 32 council seats are up for re-election in 2021 - they had originally been scheduled for 2020 before being postponed due to the pandemic.

As of the last election in 2018, Labour held the majority on the council with 24 seats, with the Conservatives on eight.
