Ten running enthusiasts from Sussex are trading the South Downs for the seaside and taking on a mammoth swimming challenge to raise money for local homeless charity Turning Tides.

The team, known as the Rampion Champions, will be swimming from Brighton Pier to Worthing Pier next month (Saturday 18 September).

Turning Tides experienced its busiest year on record in 2020, as it supported over 900 local people during the height of the coronavirus pandemic.

Team captain Dominic Mason said: "It's quite stunning when you look at the number of people they support when you think of West Sussex being a wealthy, well to do place overall.

He went on to talk us through his experience of helping Turning Tides at a Christmas dinner event one year.

Dominic explained: "There were families there, all types of people. It cuts across the whole of society, it's very impactful working at an event like that. You get to talk to real people and hear their real problems".

Once this challenge is completed, the team will start preparing to swim to the Rampion offshore windfarm in 2022!
