A pub in West Sussex will be celebrating the King’s Coronation this bank holiday weekend by selling pints at 1940s prices.

The Onslow Arms, in Loxwood, wanted to honour the monarch by reverting costs back to 1948 – the year of King Charles' birth.

The pub will be offering Badger Best bitter at £2.80 on the day – roughly the equivalent of 12d (pence) back then.

Landlord and owner, Rob Barr, said: “It was just a quirky idea, really, obviously his birth date is probably quite poignant to him and to the monarchy, so I thought let’s celebrate by doing something like that for him.”

The pub will also be kicking off celebrations with a screening of the event itself, a children’s Coronation trail around the pub and gardens and live music in the evening.

Asked what he was most excited about, Rob added: “I think just seeing a coronation for the first time.

"I think that's really, really exciting and everything that goes with it - and it's just a chance to celebrate all those true British values as well.”

According to the British Beer and Pub Association, an estimated 62 million pints are expected to be poured over the bank holiday weekend – providing a £120 million boost for pubs across the UK.
