A Sussex Police officer will appear in court charged with police corruption, the Independent Office for Police Conduct said.

27-year-old OC Joseph Aylett, based at Crawley station, has been charged with corrupt or other improper exercise of police powers and privileges, after an investigation by the police watchdog.

The allegation is said to relate to an incident in July 2022, when a suspect in an alleged assault in Crawley High Street walked free without any action being taken against them.

Pc Aylett will appear at Medway Magistrates' Court on Wednesday (August 14th).

The IOPC said the charge was authorised by the Crown Prosecution Service after the conclusion of their investigation in June 2023.
