Thomas Hawkins is accused of assaulting a woman he knew while off duty

A Sussex Police Detective Constable has been in court charged with assaulting a woman.

Thomas Hawkins is accused of attacking the victim, who he knew, while off duty on May 11th.

The 42-year-old has been suspended from duty and appeared before Brighton Magistrates yesterday, December 12th.

The matter was referred to the Independent Office of Police Conduct who directed that a local investigation by the Professional Standards Department should be conducted.
