A total of 87 drivers have been arrested in the first two weeks of Sussex Police’s annual crackdown on drink and drug drivers.
National campaign, Operation Limit, involves officers across the country working to catch offenders getting behind the wheel while under the influence of alcohol or drugs.
Dozens of drivers have already been questioned on suspicion of drink or drug driving across the county so far and a number of those have already been charged.
Superintendent Rachel Glenton said: “It is concerning that we are still seeing so many irresponsible drivers getting behind the wheel while intoxicated.
“Some of those we have arrested have been involved in collisions on the road and put themselves and other road users at risk.
“Our officers are determined to catch offenders to prevent them from causing serious harm.
“We police the roads 24/7 and our work to catch those who are over the limit continues all year round. So those who are over the limit while driving should be warned that while we cannot be everywhere, officers could be anywhere.
“If you suspect someone is seeking to drive while over the limit for alcohol or drugs, you should report them to the police. It could save someone’s life.”
Sussex Police recently launched a separate campaign urging people to report a drink or drug driver.
The force is encouraging friends or family members to persuade and prevent someone who may be intoxicated from getting behind the wheel.
Road users are being warned to be responsible or risk facing prosecution, an unlimited fine and a driving ban.
