Multiple people from Sussex have been recognised on this year's prestigious New Years' Honours List.

The annual list rewards people MBE and BEM status for their huge achievements and dedication to making an impact on the local community.

Among famous faces, there's a knighthood in store for the likes of Crawley-born, ex-England manager Gareth Southgate.

But there's also a special place for those who have become known among their communities for their impact on local livelihoods.

We've listed them all here:

Daniel David Brookbank, MBE - Pevensey Bay

58-year-old Daniel has spent over a decade serving Brighton and East Sussex's community.

In 2010, he became the Chairperson of the Pevensey Community Support Group.

By 2012, he organised ceremonial events for the Olympics and Queen's Jubilee, as well as leading on community litter picks, gardening and park conservation products.

Retiring from his role in 2021, he raised over a £100,000 in total for the organisation's work supporting vulnerable people locally.

He also campaigns for safer walkways and streets across Sussex.

Christopher Sprules, BEM - Arundel

Chris Sprules has dedicated over 20 years to improving and maintaining cycling infrastructure across Sussex.

His work includes creating two new cycle routes across the South Downs, totalling to 16 miles, as well as creating cycle paths across Littlehampton and Bognor seafronts.

Chris has been pivotal in encouraging housing developers to include cycle paths in new estates - with his comments on plans meaning they've set £2.5 million aside in total to do so.

Elsewhere, he's also at the head of many cycling and walking initiatives, including a mentorship scheme to help those less confident on a bike.

Currently, he has taken on a new role as a paths inspector at West Sussex County Council, auditing paths to make sure they're looked after and clearly signposted.

With their policy to stop any food they collect going to landfill, any donated food not fit for humans to eat gets sent to a local farm to help feed the pigs.

They also created and run a charity scheme which takes surplus supermarket ingredients into schools to help children learn to cook and understand about nutrition.

Jennifer Anne Dobson, BEM - Crawley

In the 30 years that she's run it, Jennifer's parent and toddler group at St Barnabas Church in Pound Hill has become renowned as a "vital space" for caregivers to "get out and meet other adults".

She told Greatest Hits Radio that she's "flabbergasted" to have been recognised for her work.

Throughout the years, she's helped thousands of families, with those who she supported as children now telling her as adults how much of an impact she's had on their early years.

Mark Newey, BEM - Haywards Heath

Mark's "sustained and selfless" volunteer work over the past decade has seen Haywards Heath Rugby Club bloom with one of its largest groups of players yet.

Over 450 children play each week, and he's even developed a Girls Rugby Section.
