Trains in Sussex have been disrupted after reports of landslips close to the tracks caused services to be halted.

Early in the morning of Saturday (April 6th), Thameslink reported that they had been told of a landslip in the area between Hassocks and Burgess Hill, on the railway's southern service to Brighton.

As a result, Thameslink halted all services that ran between Haywards Heath and Brighton, causing disruption for hundreds of travellers.

Following the discovery, Thameslink also recommended that passengers make alternative arrangements or to delay travelling until later in the morning.

As a result, all services calling at Burgess Hill, Hassocks and Preston Park were halted whilst engineers carried out emergency work to secure the track.

There was also an announcement that there would be a limited number of trains would run directly to Brighton, with diversions to other areas via Lewes.

As well as this, services to Gatwick Airport from Brighton have also been heavily disrupted, with tickets being valid on Metrobus services.

It comes amid preparations for the Brighton Marathon, which is set to take place on Sunday (April 7th), with services expected to be much busier, as well as a queueing system being put in place in Brighton train station.
