A 21-year-old man has died following a fatal collision involving a car and a heavy goods vehicle (HGV) on the A22 near Nutley.

The incident occurred at around 8.40pm on Tuesday (15 July) and involved a blue Ford Focus and a Renault Trucks HGV.

Tragically, the driver of the Ford Focus, a 21-year-old man, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Two passengers in the Ford Focus — a 22-year-old man and a 24-year-old man — were also injured, one seriously. Both were taken to hospital for treatment.

Officers are investigating the circumstances of the collision and are examining the possible involvement of a third vehicle, a red Vauxhall Corsa, believed to have been in the area prior to the crash.

As part of the investigation, two 21-year-old women connected to the Vauxhall Corsa were arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving. One has since been released without further action, while the other has been released on bail pending further enquiries.

Police are urging anyone who witnessed the incident, or who may have dashcam or CCTV footage of the vehicles involved — particularly the blue Ford Focus or red Vauxhall Corsa — to come forward.
