Police have found what is suspected to be a human skull close to a road near Chichester.

Sussex Police confirmed officers made the discovery in a lay-by on the B2141 near Chilgrove at 12.35pm on Thursday (January 28th).

Forensics teams have been to the scene to recover the skull, to see if it can be examined.

A Sussex Police spokesman said:

"Further examination and searching of the area is ongoing to establish if other skeletal objects are located there.

“This discovery is being treated as unexplained at this time.”

The find comes several days after human remains were discovered by a walker on West Wittering beach.

Forensics teams were sent there on Sunday following reports that a 'decayed skeleton' had been found in mud in Sheepwash Lane.
