St Leonards man accused of double murder allegedly described himself as "psychopath with a conscience"
Mark Brown is charged with murdering Leah Ware and Alexandra Morgan
A man from St Leonards, accused of murdering two women, has been back in court this morning.
Mark Brown, of Squirrel Close, is standing trial in Hove over the death of Leah Ware, from Hastings, and Alexandra Morgan, from Sissinghurst, Kent.
Both women, who were mothers in their thirties, were reported missing six months apart in May and November 2021.
Mr Brown denies the charges.
The court heard the 41-year-old allegedly sent a message to a friend describing himself as a "psychopath with a conscience" and hinted at what the prosecution say was the process he used to dispose of their bodies.
The message read: "I'm going to be very careful how I word this - it happened again, not very long ago when disposing of something.
"It's a very unpleasant thing to do - an old oil drum, five litres of diesel, and hey presto, there's not very much left.
"It gets hot, very hot, it glows almost white.
"The things I have done weigh heavily on my heart, on my head and my soul. A psychopath with a conscience - it's a joke really."
Miss Morgan’s remains were found inside an oil drum in a skip at a building site in Kent, where Brown worked at the time of her disappearance.
He has since admitted to disposing of her body "in a panic" – saying she died in an accident at Little Bridge Farm.
Miss Ware’s remains are yet to be found.
The trial is expected to continue until mid-November.
