Residents and businesses in areas across West Sussex and Brighton & Hove can get their Christmas trees collected in return for a voluntary donation to St Barnabas House hospice and Chestnut Tree House children’s hospice.

The list of areas included in the scheme are:

St Barnabas House:

  • Angmering
  • East Preston
  • Littlehampton
  • Rustington
  • Wick

Chestnut Tree House:

  • Bognor Regis
  • Brighton & Hove
  • Crawley
  • Shoreham-by-Sea
  • Southwick

Charlotte Waring at St Barnabas House and Chestnut Tree House said: “Christmas is a busy time for everyone, and this initiative is a great way to dispose of your Christmas tree in a hassle-free and environmentally-friendly way, whilst also supporting your local community.”

Residents will need to sign up to the recycling scheme through Just Helping, a UK charity founded in 2012 that are working with the hospices to raise much-needed funds this Christmas.

Once residents have signed up to the scheme, volunteers will collect their Christmas trees in a COVID secure way between 8-11 January 2022. The trees will then be taken to tree recycling plants across Sussex.

Charlotte continues: “As well as encouraging people to sign up, we are also looking for individuals and businesses with vans, lorries, and everything in between to give their time to our Christmas Tree recycling scheme.

"If you’re looking for a team-building opportunity, then this is perfect for you! If you would like to get involved, please email volunteers@stbh.org.uk.

“Whatever way you get involved with the recycling scheme; you can be sure you are making a big difference to your local hospices. Patients and families are never charged for their care and only a small proportion of hospice care costs are funded by central government, so they rely heavily on the generosity, help and support of people like you.”
