Southeastern launches biggest ever recruitment drive across south east
New campaign aims to break outdated perceptions of working on the railway
Southeastern has launched its "biggest ever recruitment drive" to encourage more people to opt for a career in rail.
The train operator says opportunities are available in a range of roles, with the aim of hiring over 600 new starters over the next year.
The roles included 170 trainee drivers and more than 100 station staff across Kent, East Sussex and south-east London.
The figure is approximately double the number of people Southeaster would usually hire at this time of year.
Steve Foster, Southeastern's People Director, said:
“Working at Southeastern brings responsibility, pride and achievement. We want to recruit great people who represent the communities we serve.
"We know that some people think that they need experience in the railway or specific qualifications. That is rarely the case and for many jobs we provide full training. We are interested in applicants who have the right mindset."
Other jobs available include onboard managers, train conductors, engineers and roles in railway enforcement and protection.
Southeastern also says it wants to identify and remove barriers to opportunity and hire from under-represented groups by 10% year on year.
