Six people are being treated in hospital in Hastings in connection with what Sussex Police suspect to be a "potentially dangerous batch" of heroin.

Sussex Police say the batch of the Class A drug could be more widespread across East Sussex.

Another person has suffered a medical episode due to it.

Chief Inspector Simon Yates says he understands the rogue batch is "lighter in colour than usual."

“People who use drugs, in particular heroin, should be extra cautious about what they are using and how much they take," he added.

“If you are concerned about someone you know, please advise them of this warning and we strongly urge them to safely dispose of the drug,"

He said if anyone showed signs of an opioid overdose - including shallow breathing, loss of consciousness and blue lips or fingertips - you should call an ambulance immediately and safely administer naloxone if possible.

If you believe someone has overdosed, you should contact 999 straight away, or if you have other concerns or information, call 101 quoting Op Rodmell.
