A beach in West Sussex has been closed for a controlled explosion for the second time in a week.

Selsey Coastguard Rescue Team were called to reports of ordnance at Medmerry Beach yesterday morning (8 November).

They carried out a search of the beach and found several pieces of ordnance, which were photographed.

A cordon was put in place and the beach was closed.

Photos were passed on to the Explosive Ordnance Disposal Team (EOD).

However, Selsey Coastguard Rescue Team said EOD were on another job in Portsmouth and were unable to attend before it was covered by the incoming tide.

The ordnance was found again this morning (9 November) and EOD carried out a controlled explosion just after 12pm.

The beach has now reopened.

It comes less than a week since the team received a similar report and a controlled explosion was also carried out on 5 November.
