A secondary school in Hove will be shut this morning after a fire broke out last night.

East Sussex Fire and Rescue Service left the scene at 6:30am this morning, 18th January, and have now launched an investigation into the fire at Blatchington Mill School.

Crews were called to the school at 5.42pm to reports of smoke on Wednesday 17th January.

At its height, six fire engines along with 30 firefighters were at scene, as well as officers and other agencies.

The service confirmed the fire affected the ground floor of the building.

Thermal imaging cameras were used by crews to make sure everyone was accounted for.

No injuries have been reported.

On its website, the school confirmed it will not be open on Thursday morning and advised parents and pupils to "keep checking our website for more updates while we assess the situation".

An investigation into the cause of the fire will take place in due course.
