Saltdean Lido main building on track to reopen this year
Around £7.5m has been invested in restoring the Grade II listed building
Saltdean Lido's main building remains on track to reopen this year as work to restore the Grade II listed site continues.
The Lido, which was built in the 1930s, has been undergoing repairs to bring it back to life with the help of grants from the National Lottery Heritage Fund, Historic England, Brighton and Hove City Council and the local community.
Around £7.5m has been invested in the project, which will see the Lido fitted with a café/restaurant, library, ballroom and other community rooms alongside the pool.
If all goes to plan the main building will open in the second half of 2023.
Cllr Martin Osborne, co-chair of Brighton & Hove City Council’s Tourism, Equalities, Communities and Culture Committee, said: “We are proud to have partnered with the volunteer-led Saltdean Lido Community Interest Company, the Heritage Fund and other bodies in the restoration of this iconic building and the creation of a much-needed community facility.
“A key part of our newly adopted City Plan Part 2 is protecting and enhancing our city’s unique historic treasures, so they can be enjoyed by all residents and visitors, now and for years to come.”
