Rail disruption as person hit by train near Haywards Heath

A person has been hit by a train, between Haywards Heath and Redhill.

While the emergency services carry out their work, all lines between these stations are closed.

Trains may be cancelled, delayed by up to 60 minutes or revised.

Major disruption is expected until 8pm tonight.

Routes affected:

Gatwick Express services between Brighton and London Victoria

Great Western Railway services between Gatwick Airport and Reading

Southern services between Eastbourne / Littlehampton / Bexhill and London Victoria

Thameslink services between Brighton and Bedford / Cambridge

A spokesperson for British Transport Police said: "Officers were called at around 2.30pm today (29 October) to reports of a casualty on the tracks at Balcombe railway station.

Officers responded with paramedics, however sadly a person was pronounced dead at the scene. The incident is not being treated as suspicious, and a file will be prepared for the coroner."
