A prolific burglar, who was already on a warning, has been jailed after breaking into a Greggs bakery in Worthing.

Robert Jody May was given a suspended sentence order for trespassing with the intent to steal at a number of stores in Eastbourne back in 2021.

Despite being told he could face imprisonment for any further offences, the 48-year-old, of no fixed address, targeted Greggs in Montague Street with another man on October 9th last year.

The store was broken into through the roof hatch, causing extensive damage, and cash was stolen from the safe.

May pleaded guilty to burglary and was sentenced to a total of 18 months behind bars – which included the activation of his suspended sentence for the previous offences.

The other suspect, Patrick Knight, 52, of no fixed address, was also charged with burglary but failed to attend court.

Police are currently trying to locate him.
