West Sussex parents find out about primary school places
More children will be going to one of their top three schools in September
There has been an increase in the numbers of children who have got into their first choice primary school in West Sussex.
Parents across the county have been finding out whether their children have been offered places at any of their preferred choices on National Primary Offer Day on Friday (April 16th).
The County Council’s Admissions Team managed 8,881 applications, with every child found a primary school place.
This year in West Sussex:
• 98.7% of those who applied were offered one of their three preferences, a slight increase from last year (98.5%)
• 91.5% were offered their first preference school, again an increase on the 90.8% last year.
Emailed offers should arrived before 5pm today so parents and carers shouldn’t be alarmed if they haven’t received theirs yet.
Ellie Evans, Assistant Director for Education and Skills and Head of Admissions, said:
“Starting school is such an exciting time for every child and their family so I am delighted that such a high percentage of children have been provided a place at one of their preference schools.
“This year has of course been extremely difficult for all of our schools and families because of the pandemic, so I hope children and their parents and carers can now begin to prepare and look forward to September.”
The Council’s Admissions Team also managed a total of 1,444 applications for children transferring from infant to junior school.
Of those, 100% will today be offered one of their three preferences, with 99.9% offered their first preference school, also up on last year’s figures.
