Fire crews have put out a blaze involving an electricity pylon, which left villages in Wisborough Green without power.

Members of the public alerted crews to the fire in Butts Meadow at 10.03pm on Thursday night (March 4th).

A spokesperson from the West Sussex Fire and Rescue Service said crews from Billingshurst and Petworth were called to the scene.

"Firefighters quickly brought the fire under control using one hose reel. A cordon was set up and residents were urged to remain indoors.

“Electricity supplies were disrupted to the immediate area as a result of this incident, and engineers from Scottish and Southern Electricity were in attendance.

“Our crews booked away from the incident at 1.29am and power has since been restored to the area."

Crews returned to the scene this morning to reinspect, and confirmed there were no further signs of fire.

According to Scottish and Southern Electricity's 'Power Tracker' map, several issues were still affecting homes in the RH14 0BL, RH14 0BT, RH14 0BU, RH14 0BX and RH14 0BY postcodes as of Friday morning.

All are expected to be fixed as of 9.20am on Friday.
