An offer that allowing bus passengers to make short journeys around Brighton and Hove for just £1 is being extended.
City councillors have confirmed that the scheme, which was due to end on Friday (January 31st), will now continue until the end of March.
The offer replaces fares usually priced at £1.70 on a number or routes run by Brighton and Hove Buses.
Bosses have said the changes make it cheaper and more affordable for passengers to access sustainable travel.
The offer is available through tap on tap off (where the operator provides this option) or directly from the driver through contactless card or cash purchase when boarding.
Councillor Trevor Muten, Brighton and Hove City Council's cabinet member for Transport, Parking and Public Realm, said:
"This is great news for bus passengers making short journeys around the city – especially anyone who wants to access local businesses and services, or to meet up with friends and family.
“Keeping bus travel as affordable as possible is very important to us. Working with local operators and using funding from our Bus Service Improvement Plan, we’ve been able to extend this offer into the spring.
“Travelling by bus is a quick and sustainable way to move around the city and benefits everyone.”
Nick Hill, Commercial Director at Brighton and Hove Buses, said:
"We’re extremely pleased to be able to extend our £1 fare cap for short journeys in the city, in partnership with Brighton & Hove City Council.
“We’re committed to keeping bus travel affordable for everyone, especially while the cost of living still affects lots of people in our local community.”
Bus Service Improvement Plan
The fare offer has been made possible thanks to the Brighton & Hove Bus Service Improvement Plan (BSIP), which is funded by the Department for Transport.
The BSIP aims to grow passenger numbers, increase bus passenger satisfaction level and improve bus reliability.
