Police seek man in connection with theft of musical instrument worth £40,000

A bassoon was stolen on a train from Lewes to Brighton

British Transport Police has released pictures of a man they want to speak to in connection with the theft of a bassoon, worth up to £40,000, on a rail service form Lewes to Brighton.

It happed on Tuesday 19 October, when a man boarded the 2.04pm service and placed his bassoon in the overhead luggage hold. When he got off the train, he accidentally left the instrument behind.

Enquiries show the instrument was stolen by another passenger who then boarded a service towards Hastings and got off at Southwick.

Officers believe the man in the CCTV images may have information which could help their investigation.
